Ive been playing the drums for more than 20 years. As a kid,
there were dreams of rock star fame. But now as an adult, it has taken a backseat as a
weekend hobby, as childhood dreams often do.
For the past 2 years, I have been playing drums for the local rock
band Jadestone. Weekends often consist of performing at bars, clubs, and rowdy
parties all around the South Florida Area.
This past May 1st, my childhood imagination caught a
glimpse of reality when the band was asked to perform as the opening act for Sheryl
Crow at this years Sunfest.
For me, it was the highlight of my many musical experiences. I got
the opportunity to perform on the largest stage I had ever been on and got to perform in
front of the biggest crowd I had ever seen from a stage view. While playing drums for the
bands 1½ hour set, the experience become surreal when I saw myself, from the corner of my
eye, being filmed and projected on the jumbotron screens.
For an evening, I, along with my fellow band mates, were treated
like the rock stars we dreamed about as kids. As we finished our act, we took a bow, and
soaked up the cheers from the crowd. For a moment, I realized that I was living my dream
even if it was only for a moment.
