You’ve probably noticed the recent excitement at the old Brendy’s location in The Shoppes at Village Pointe. Well, for good reason, because Marble Slab Creamery has finally arrived!

Co-Owners Marty Marks, along with his son Randy and lovely daughter-in-law Luz (all MBS members!) just opened the Creamery in March, and it’s already becoming a local favorite. The setting here is convivial and comfortable, with ample floor space for relaxed dining, plus lots of outside seating. The affable Marty maintains a hands-on approach, eagerly welcoming patrons and making sure everything runs smoothly. As Marty explains, “This is a place where everyone leaves happy!” And Randy and Luz are always on hand, lovingly ensuring Marty’s proclamation remains true.

Yes, this is real ice cream (and yes, that means some fat and calories). But hey, even the most ardent diet gurus agree, it’s OK to treat yourself once in a while! (Right, Sue Rue?) So, what better treat than some cool, refreshing ice cream? (Just think of it as extra incentive to work out!). And we’re talkin’ truly outstanding ice cream here – hand-made on premises fresh daily, using only real, natural ingredients. With over 35 flavors -- from “basic” Sweet Cream, Vanilla Bean, and Chocolate, to specialties like Coconut, Key Lime, and (my personal recommendations) Lemon Custard, Amaretto, and Apple Pie, you’re sure to find your favorite. Trouble deciding? Luckily, the friendly staff is always happy to give you free samplings. And fear not, health-conscious ones, there are several reduced-fat options, as well as non-fat frozen yogurt.

How could this incredible treat get even better? With Mixins! After you choose your ice cream, the server then transfers your scoop to the ice-cold marble slab (hence the name), and deftly folds in your choice of toppings. The multitude of Mixins also spans the culinary gamut -- from classic chips and nuts, to fresh berries, granola, crushed Oreos, and Cookie Dough. Or, appease your inner child with some Gummi Bears, Bubble Gum, or even Twinkies! Then enjoy your custom-made creation in a fresh, homemade waffle cone (9 kinds!). Other specialties include homemade Brownies and Apple Pie (a la mode, of course), and old-fashioned malts, sodas, and shakes. The friendly scoopers here are also happy to pack your creations To Go (although many pints have reportedly “disappeared” before making it home!)

A tour of the back facilities confirmed my prediction: Absolutely immaculate! I was amazed at the meticulous measures taken to ensure cleanliness, freshness, and overall quality control. Equally impressive is the quality of the ingredients – natural flavorings, fresh fruit, name brand candies and cookies, etc. Rarely have we ever seen such an impressive food prep area. So come help welcome our new neighbor. My suggestion? Schedule an extra workout, skip the mayo, and treat yourself to an indulgence truly “worth the calories” – Marble Slab Ice Cream!
