FIT OR WHAT
By Chuck Wong Chong
Michael's Body Scenes newest participation event is
based on norms for several fitness tests.
BODY COMPOSITIONyour body is comprised of two major
components:
Lean body massrepresenting the weight of bones, muscles, organs,
and connective tissue.
Fat
tissue masswhich is necessary as it performs vital body functions in the body.
This test shows your body fat as a percentage of your total body
weight.
CARDIOVASCULAR STRENGTHrepresents
the ability of the body to take in and distribute oxygen to working muscles. We will
measure this by seeing how fast your heart recovers after a 3-minute step test.
GRIP STRENGTHas its name implies is performed
using a grip strength dynamometera method used to measure static (or isometric)
muscular strength of the forearm muscles. This correlates to overall body strength.
FLEXIBILITYthe ability of a joint to move smoothly
through a full range of motion (ROM). The total ROM at a particular joint is a measure of
static flexibility. Using a sit and reach" box, this test mainly gauges the
flexibility in your hamstrings and lower back.
MUSCULAR ENDURANCEthe ability of a muscle group to
exert submaximal force for extended periods. A timed "sit-up" test will be given
where the total number of sit-ups are recorded for 1 minute.
MUSCULAR STRENGTH & ENDURANCE test is an un-timed push up
test where the total number of push-ups are recorded. Good form at a constant cadence is a
must.
Take one or all the test, all at once or a little at a time. To find
out your fitness level, see a fitness counselor and have fun.
